Choosing a Classroom Rug for Reading and Group Time

Size, material, cleaning and fire-safety testing. What teachers and daycare directors should check before ordering a classroom rug.

A classroom rug does more than cover the floor. It marks the spot where the class gathers for stories, morning meeting and group work. A few practical checks make the difference between a rug that works for years and one that curls, stains or ends up too small.

Size

Count how many children sit on it at once and leave room for them to spread out. The ZETY Children's Classroom Rug is 7.6 x 12 feet, large enough for a group to sit, stretch and move while keeping the area clearly defined.

Material

Nylon is a common choice for high-traffic floors. The ZETY rug is 100% nylon with reinforced edges that help it hold its shape.

Cleaning

Classrooms are messy. A low-profile surface is easier to vacuum and spot clean. Ours spot cleans with warm water.

Flammability testing

Ask whether the rug has been tested to the federal flammability standard for carpets and rugs, 16 CFR 1630. The ZETY Children's Classroom Rug passed 16 CFR 1630 testing at TÜV SÜD.

Design

A rug sets the tone of the room. Ours has a pastel smiley-face pattern on black, which reads as cheerful without being loud.
