What to Look for in a Playpen Play Mat

Fit, surface, thickness and cleanup. Four things that decide whether a playpen mat works day to day.

A wooden playpen on a hard floor needs something soft underneath. The mat is where your baby will spend tummy time, roll, crawl and pull up, so it is worth choosing with care. Four things matter most.

1. Fit

A mat that is too small leaves gaps at the edges. One that is too big has to be folded or trimmed, and a folded edge is something to trip on. Look for a mat made for the footprint of your specific pen.

ZETY mats are cut to size: 61 x 61 inches for the 8-panel playpen and 91 x 61 inches for the 10-panel.

2. Surface

Babies drool, spill bottles and drop snacks. A waterproof surface keeps that on top of the mat, where it can be wiped away, instead of soaking into foam. ZETY mats use a PU leather surface that wipes clean with a damp cloth.

3. Thickness

Thin foam tiles shift and separate. A single mat with real padding stays put and gives an even surface for sitting and standing. Ours use 1.5 inches of high-density foam.

4. Cleanup and care

Ask how you clean it on a normal day and on a bad one. A wipe-clean surface handles everyday mess. A removable cover helps when you need a deeper clean.

Testing

A play mat is a children's product, so ask how it was tested. ZETY play mats are tested by Intertek.

Style

The mat is the largest surface in the pen, so it sets the look. ZETY mats come in Beige, Geometry and Under the Sea. Beige stays quiet in a neutral living room. Geometry and Under the Sea match the toys on the playpens with the same names.
